TEMPE, Ariz – Even as friends and family of murdered Arizona State University student Zachary Marco prepare to say their last goodbyes, investigators on the case say they need the public's help to find his killer.

Marco's family hosted a memorial in Mesa Tuesday night. The 21-year-old will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

Those who knew the ASU junior are still stunned by his death. Marco was shot in an apparent robbery as he walked near the ASU campus at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 17.

Tempe police say the shooter in the case is described as a black male in his early 20s. He is approximately 6 feet tall and has a thin build and a short haircut. He was seen wearing a white shirt, blue shorts and a red bandanna on his head.

The second suspect in the homicide is described as a black man who appeared to be about 25 years old. He has a medium build and is approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt.

Tempe police believe both suspects fled the scene in a newer model, dark-colored four-door sedan. Police have not obtained the license plate information.

Sgt. Steve Carbajal said police are hoping somebody will come forward with information that will help the investigation. No tip is too small; every detail is important.

"Right now, we're at the point where we need tips from the public," Carbajal said. "The one thing we want to stress is no tip is insignificant. We need to know what people saw. ... Sometimes people rationalize what they saw; they don't think it's significant. They think the police department probably already knows about it. ... If somebody saw something, if somebody knows these individuals, please come forward and help us solve this case."

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Tempe police at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

Silent Witness is offering an $11,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
