Apache Junction girl injured when shotgun blast goes from one apartment to anotherPosted: Updated:
APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. – A 9-year-old girl was injured in an accidental shooting on Monday. The incident took place at a duplex apartment near Royal Palm and Winchester roads in Apache Junction.
Police said two juveniles were not under the supervision of an adult when they fired a shotgun inside an apartment. The blast went through the wall into an adjoining apartment injuring a 9-year-old girl and a man in his 30s.
The man reportedly received only superficial wounds and refused medical treatment. The 9-year-old girl was reportedly peppered with debris in the chest, arm and stomach by the shotgun blast. She was treated and releaed at a nearby hospital according to Capt. Thomas Kelly with the Apache Junction Police Department.
Kelly said the juveniles who fired the shotgun do not live in the apartment and they left the scene with the weapon after the incident. Police are trying to locate the shotgun and those involved.
