3 Seriously injured in wrong-way freeway crash involving 3 carsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – Three people are in the hospital with serious injuries following a wreck involving three vehicles in the West Valley Sunday evening.
Department of Public Safety officials said two teens were headed eastbound on the Loop 101 freeway near 67th Avenue when their white Volkswagen turned into the median, broke through the cables and drove into oncoming traffic.
Their car crashed into a black SUV driven by a man in his 60s.
“On the other side of the highway … there’s a spare tire that came off the white vehicle, it actually hit a silver Volvo that was also eastbound so it’s actually three vehicles involved in the collision," said DPS Sgt. Kevin Wood.
The crash shut down the westbound freeway for several hours.
