MARICOPA, Ariz. – An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by an SUV while riding his bicycle in Maricopa.
The boy was struck Wednesday just after 1 p.m. in the Rancho El Dorado subdivision.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the boy sitting on the curb with his bicycle and an SUV in the roadway. A witness told police he saw the boy riding across the street when he was hit by the SUV.
Although the boy initially showed no signs of significant injury, he displayed signs of trauma and serious head injuries approximately 10 minutes after police arrived at the scene.
The boy was taken to Maricopa Medical Center where doctors discovered bleeding in his head and an emergency surgery was performed Wednesday night.
The boy remains in critical condition.
