Horne responds to Ethnic Studies ban lawsuitPosted: Updated:
The state schools chief responding Tuesday to the lawsuit filed against him concerning HB 2281.
The bill effectively bans ethnic studies programs in arizona schools. It was sparked by the Tucson Unified School District's Mexican American studies programs.
A dozen ethnic studies teachers are suing Horne and the state board of education.
"The philosophy behind the legislation is the American ideal is we're all individuals. what matters about us is what we know, what we can do, and our character. not what race we were born into," said Superintent Tom Horne.
The ban goes into effect at the end of the year.
