TUCSON, Ariz. - Almost a ton of marijuana was seized by Border Patrol agents near Casa Grande.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents assigned to the Casa Grande station seized almost 2,000 pounds of pot Monday with a street value of more than $1.5 million.

Agents said they observed a suspicious vehicle drive off-road. The vehicle was abandoned and agents discovered 1,990 pounds of marijuana in 127 bundles.

Agents searched the area but were unable to locate any smugglers.

“Our agents are impacting the amount of illegal narcotics that smugglers are attempting to move into the United States,” said Patrol Agent in Charge Chris T. Clem.

The drugs and the vehicle were seized and taken to the Casa Grande Border Patrol station for processing.
