Phoenix police officer arrested on assault charges

PHOENIX - A Phoenix police officer is in jail after a witness reported the suspect was involved in a domestic violence situation.

Sunday at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call after a witness reported Sutton Wohlman, 29, was choking a female.

According to a news release, the witness intervened in the assault before calling police.

The first officer to arrive on scene attempted to detain Wohlman by placing him in handcuffs, but Wohlman tried to resist. Additional officers were called to the scene to take him into custody.

Wohlman was taken to the hospital to be treated for an injury to his forehead during the arrest struggle and possible alcohol intoxication. He was treated and released.

Wohlman was booked into jail and faces charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

Wohlman has been with the Phoenix Police Department for three years and is assigned to the Squaw Peak Precinct.
