MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa woman who left her son home alone locked in a closet was sentenced to 14 years of supervised probation Friday morning.
In January, a constable serving an eviction notice was checking a Mesa apartment for occupants and found a chair braced against a bedroom door. He moved it and found a toddler sleeping on a mattress in the closet.
Police officers arrived and noticed that the boy had bruises on his face, ears and hip. He also had a chipped tooth and a bruised lip.
Corinna May Davis admitted to leaving her son in the closet without adult supervision and going to work. She also admitted to spanking her son with her hand and causing the bruises on his hip.
On Friday, a Maricopa County Superior Court judge sentenced Davis to 14 years of supervised probation for one count of child abuse.
The boy has been in the custody of Child Protective Services and Davis has had supervised visits with him.
