Suspect involved in alleged domestic violence incident on freeway found deadPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Phoenix police and the Department of Public Safety are continuing their investigation into a barricade situation near 37th Avenue and Cactus Road.
At approximately 4:15 a.m. Friday, DPS got a call from a truck driver alerting them to a domestic-violence situation happening on Interstate 17. According to officers, the caller said a woman was being assaulted in her vehicle. The caller was able to give dispatch a partial license plate number.
Officers were able to track down the house where the car was registered.
When DPS arrived at the home, a woman who appeared beaten and wearing torn clothing came running out of the house.
Phoenix police were called to the scene and officers tried making contact with the male suspect.
At that time, two other women ran out of the home. They were unharmed.
They told officers there was no one else in the home, but police believed otherwise and called SWAT officers to the scene.
According to Phoenix Fire dispatch, the suspect was found dead inside the home with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
