Woman's decomposed body found in Phoenix trash containerPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Phoenix police are investigating a body found in a large trash bin in an alleyway Tuesday night.
A neighbor in the area of 47th Avenue and McDowell Road called police at approximately 10:30 p.m. after detecting a foul odor coming from a garbage receptacle.
The man, who was out walking his dog, opened the container and discovered a woman's body.
According to police, the body was in a state of decomposition.
The medical examiner arrived on scene and removed the entire garbage container from the scene and will begin worrking to determine the cause of death and the identity of the victim.
Police said this is a very active investigation.
Neighbors said the garbage bin was a different color than the ones that neighborhood uses, but police have not said if the person was killed on scene or brought there.
Police said a woman in the area has been missing for a couple of weeks, but they aren't sure if the body is that of the woman.
