PHOENIX – A semitruck was T-boned by a train in Phoenix on Tuesday afternoon.
The driver of the truck was headed southbound on 11th Avenue when he came upon an unarmed crossing at the train tracks.
The driver of the semi said he did not see the freight train approaching and the train crashed into the middle of the semi’s storage trailer, causing it to overturn.
"He said he thought he'd cleared the pathway and looked both ways, but when he was about halfway across the railroad tracks he suddenly discovered that he had a big train coming right at him," a Phoenix Fire Department spokesperson said.
The truck had been transporting corn syrup but was empty at the time of the crash.
The driver was not injured and the wreck remains under investigation.
