2 Teenage gang members shot in Mesa; 2 men arrested

MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police arrested two suspects accused of shooting two teenage gang members Monday night.

Officers responded to a shooting near Main Street and Alma School Road at approximately 8:30 p.m. and found two male victims on the sidewalk outside a trailer court.

Mesa police Detective Michael Melendez said one victim was shot in the stomach and the other in the upper right shoulder. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

Melendez said the victims are 16 and 17 years old and are known gang members.

A security guard in a nearby industrial business reported seeing two or three people jump into his fenced yard.

Officers located Daniel Sierra, 26, and Nicholas Espinoza, 20. Both suspects were arrested and booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm at a residential structure and criminal trespass.
