Breast Cancer Awareness events in ArizonaPosted: Updated:
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Park Place Mall is joining the fight for a cure.
The mall's common area has been transformed into a sea of pink. Shoppers are asked to sign a promise card with a list of reminders and suggestions for improved breast health. For each promise signed, one dollar will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation for the cure. All signed pledges will be on display at the pink promise zone throughout the week.
Breast cancer awareness events were also going on in Phoenix.
Sunday morning more than 31,000 people woke up bright and early and put on their walking shoes to walk in the annual Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure."
Wearing just about anything and everything pink, people walked in support of friends and family.
Sunday's event raised $2 million. As much as 75% of the proceeds will stay in Arizona to fund breast cancer education, screening, and treatment. Twenty-five percent will fund national breast cancer research.
