MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police officers arrested a man for burglary after he was spotted with a rifle at an apartment complex Saturday morning.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., police officers responded to Broadway Road and Stapley Drive after receiving a call about a suspicious person walking through an apartment complex with a rifle.

Officers contacted Alfred Ramirez in the parking lot. Mesa police Detective Steve Berry said Ramirez gave several stories about the gun and about where he was coming from and where he was going.

According to Berry, Ramirez was intoxicated and officers found a small bag of marijuana during a pat-down.

Ramirez reportedly admitted to burglarizing two trucks and taking the gun and other items, including CDs, flashlights and saws.

Berry said Ramirez led the officers to the burglary location near Fifth Avenue and Stapley Drive. The victim was contacted and identified the items.

Ramirez was booked for the burglaries and possession of marijuana.
