Mayor of Nogales out of jail, but not talking about charges against himPosted: Updated:
NOGALES, Ariz. - The mayor of Nogales is out of jail, but he didn't want to answer any questions after he was set free.
Nogales Mayor Octavio Garcia-Von Borstel and his father bonded out of jail Friday night using $3,500 in cash and some more in collateral.
They were arrested late last month on bribery, fraud, theft and money laundering charges after a five-month FBI investigation.
After getting out of jail, Garcia-Von Borstel did issue a brief statement.
"I'm not going to talk about the case, all I'm going to say is I'm overwhelmed with the support my family has received and I look forward to defending myself in court," he said.
The mayor's attorney said he believes the mayor will resume his duties at next week's City Council meeting.
Garcia Von-Borstel and his father aren't expected back in court until December.
