Deadly Tucson fire during fire prevention weekPosted: Updated:
An 88-year-old woman is dead after a fire early Thursday morning. It happened at a home near 22nd street and Alvernon.
The fire burned in a back bedroom where the woman was sleeping.
Tucson fire says there was one smoke detector in the home, but it didn't have batteries inside of it. The woman's son was also in the house, he was able to get out safely. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Thursday, Rural Metro took their training and knowledge to school to teach about fire safety.
