1 Suspect arrested, more sought in shooting of 5-year-old boyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Phoenix police detectives arrested a suspect Thursday afternoon in connection with the shooting of two young people.
Wednesday evening, a 5-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were shot at a home in the area of 29th Avenue and Taylor Road.
The 5-year-old was shot in the chest and remains in critical condition.
"A round that we believe came through the wall, hit, struck the 5-year-old as he was sleeping on the sofa," said Sgt. Trent Crump.
The 18-year-old was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Phoenix police said it was a gang fight that involved 10 to 15 men and the two who were struck were not the intended targets.
Michael Favela, 21, is in custody.
Detectives learned the shooting was in retaliation to a fight that had occurred earlier.
"The violence has spilled over and we have a completely innocent third party in this case that is clinging to life because of their actions this morning and that is what's unacceptable," Crump said.
Phoenix police are still looking to arrest additional suspects involved in the shooting.
