SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. – The bodies of a man and woman were discovered inside a tent in the Coronado Cave south of Sierra Vista.

The Coronado National Park Service rangers told Cochise County sheriff’s deputies that they had stopped a driver coming from that area for a traffic violation on Wednesday. The occupants reportedly asked rangers about people possibly camping in Coronado Cave.

Park rangers were told there was a tent in the back of the cave near Montezuma Pass but were unsure if there was anyone in it.

Rangers responded to the area and found the bodies of Sheryl Lynn Allen, 23, and Walt Gabriel Lemaire, 23, both of Sierra Vista, inside the tent.

A small-caliber handgun was reportedly found at the scene and detectives believe the weapon was first used to fire upon the female and then turned on the male.

Detectives believe the deaths occurred sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The bodies were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the deaths.
