PHOENIX - Three people are dead after a murder-suicide in South Phoenix that took place not far from a police precinct.
A spokesman with the Phoenix Fire Department confirmed three people were shot and killed at the Paradise Palms Apartment complex located near Central and Southern avenues Wednesday evening.
Police said it appears to be a murder-suicide.
Family members of one of the victims rushed to the apartment complex after they heard what happened.
"My friend lives upstairs and she called and told me my nephew was dead," said the aunt of one of the victims.
Police said they do not know what led to the shootings. They received a 911 call at about 4:30 p.m. reporting two people had been shot in the courtyard of the complex.
The shooter reportedly went into an apartment after firing at the other two victims as officers arrived at the scene. Police said they heard a gunshot as they were approaching the suspect and soon after found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The relationship between the three men has not been determined.
