Oct. 22 clemency hearing set for Arizona inmatePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- The state Board of Executive Clemency is scheduling an Oct. 22 clemency hearing at its Phoenix office for an Arizona death row inmate facing a scheduled execution four days later.
Jeffrey Landrigan's lawyers are expected to ask the board to recommend that Gov. Jan Brewer reduce Landrigan's death sentence for the 1989 murder of Chester Dyer of Phoenix to life in prison.
Under Arizona law, a governor can take no action to reduce an inmate's sentence unless the clemency board recommends that the governor do so.
