Engine light forces Phoenix police helicopter to make precautionary landingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A Phoenix police helicopter doing its daily morning flight was forced to land at Wesley Bolin Plaza near the State Capitol after an engine light came on.
The helicopter landed without incident in a grassy area on the east end of the plaza.
The landing was precautionary in order to prevent anything from happening.
No one was injured during the landing.
Police said this doesn't happen very often, but they wanted to take the necessary precaution and bring the helicopter down.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said aircraft technicians checked out the helicopter and found it flight worthy to be flown back to Deer Valley Airport.
The cause of the mechanical problem has not been released.
