Buses running for now, but strike could halt service on Monday

PHOENIX - Buses were running Friday morning thanks to an extension on labor talks, but riders might not be able to use the buses on Monday unless an agreement is reached.

Three bus unions and one of the Valley’s largest bus operators agreed to give it until Sunday to reach an agreement on wages and benefits.

A strike could still be called Friday if a collective bargaining agreement isn't reached.

A representative for the Teamsters Local 104 said the two sides are miles apart on an agreement.

A spokesperson for the bus company Veolia said the company hopes to have new contracts settled but has hired backup employees if there is a strike come Monday morning.
