TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Tempe Police Department has identified the man found dead in a trash bin Thursday and has determined his death was not a random incident.
A man's body was found inside a trash container at approximately 7:30 a.m. while Arizona State University students were on their way to class. The body was found near Maple Avenue and Ninth Street, which is about two blocks from campus.
Police entered empty homes in the area looking for evidence or possible suspects.
"I'm flabbergasted," said nearby resident Molly Brizgys. "I mean, it seems like a safe place.”
On Friday, police identified the victim as Casey Blackwood, 48. He is believed to be a transient.
According to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office, Blackwood was stabbed to death.
Detectives do not think the murder was a random incident and they are searching for suspects.
