Mesa man shot by police while wielding machete dies

MESA, Ariz. - A man who was shot by police while wielding a machete-type knife died Sunday.
Cole Ravel was shot multiple times by Mesa police officers Thursday afternoon.
Police said a woman called 911 Thursday just after 4 p.m., saying her 35-year-old son was suicidal.
When officers arrived on scene, the mother left the apartment. Ravel allegedly came out of the apartment with the machete in his hand.
The officers said they feared for their safety and shot Ravel multiple times.
The officers involved in the shooting have been either re-assigned or are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. They were identified as six-year veteran Officer Blaine Waters, four-year veteran Officer Chelsie Furman and four-year veteran Officer Steven Traw.
