Host Bob Lee interviews George Hanson, Music Director and Conductor of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Hanson just agreed to a four year contract extension with the organization.  TSO is entering its 82nd season.

Hanson says the orchestra brigs a lot of value to the community.  He says most of the musicians in the orchestra live in the City of Tucson and spend most of their income here.  He says while the orchestra continues to face difficult economic challenges, it is important people realize the economic contributions it makes.  He says fine arts and cultural programs lure people downtown, where they spend money.  He says attendance dropped by 15,00 last year, meaning there were 15,000 less visitors to downtown Tucson.  He said he wants to see TSO raising 50-percent of its budget from the community each year.

Hanson also talks about the upcoming season, which begins October 22 with his conducting the orchestra while playing piano. He says the orchestra will perform Mozart's Concerto for Piano #21 in C major, which was the theme music for the 60's movie, "Elvira Madigan."  Also on the bill, he says, is Beethoven's Symphony #3 in E-flat major, "Eroica."
