TUCSON - U.S. Border Patrol agents seized a total of 925 pounds of marijuana in two separate busts within 24 hours.

On Wednesday, Nogales Station agents assigned to the Interstate 19 checkpoint found 260 pounds of marijuana after a canine team alerted agents to a vehicle.

The second incident happened Thursday in downtown Nogales when agents discovered 25 bundles of marijuana, weighing more than 665 pounds, hidden in the brush.

“Checkpoints, along with the keen contraband detection abilities of canine units, have been critical to the drug interdiction effectiveness of our agents” said Interim Patrol Agent in Charge of the Nogales Station Carla Provost.  “Nogales agents remain dedicated to preventing illegal narcotics from reaching our communities while improving the quality of life along the border.”

The estimated value for both busts is more than $740,000.
