AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Avondale police arrested three suspects after a robbery and assault at a Circle K early Sunday morning.

Shortly before 2 a.m., the Avondale Police Department received a call of a shoplifting in progress at the Circle K at Buckeye Road and 111th Avenue, according to police spokesman Detective Reuben Gonzales.

A witness told the 911 operator that two males assaulted a store clerk in the parking lot after they took several cases of beer without paying for them.

Gonzales said one of the suspects produced a knife, brandishing it at the clerk and the witness.

The suspects fled in a dark-colored Chevy Tahoe.

Avondale patrol officers discovered that the two males and a female accomplice had committed armed robbery after video surveillance showed all three taking part.

Gonzales said police detectives recognized the female suspect on the surveillance video as Linda Bernal. The victim and witness identified the three suspects through photographic lineups.

Bernal, 38, Nazario Castillo, 25, and Carlos Bernal Jr., 43, were arrested on Tuesday. All three were charged with armed robbery. Castillo and Carlos Bernal were also charged with aggravated assault.
