Validity of Tucson's recent red-light camera tickets questioned

A watch-dog group claims some traffic tickets issued by Tucson red light cameras are invalid.

Arizona citizens against photo radar says the city of Tucson failed to renew their contract with the red light camera operators; therefore, the group says violations after August 14 are void.

The Tucson police department admits the contract expired, but they plan to renew.

"We don't know exactly what happened, why the paperwork got dropped through on this one, but we're in the process of fixing that," said Capt. Clayton Kidd of the Tucson Police Dept.  "So what we're going to do in the meantime is, we'll make the contract retroactive back to the first, all the violations that are noted during that time aren't void."

The captain also says officers review every violation before mailing a citation.
