SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A couple pleaded guilty to child abuse charges involving their then-4-month-old baby girl.

Zachary Michael Wilson, 21 and Latovia Jones, 18, were arrested in April of this year. Wilson entered a guilty plea to aggravated assault and child abuse charges. Jones pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of child abuse.

Police say the baby was taken to the emergency room of a local hospital for swelling on the side of her head on April 10. Doctors determined she had a skull fracture, multiple rib fractures and a fractured wrist.

Wilson admitted in a police report to placing the infant face down and pressing the back of the child’s head into the bed so she would stop crying.

The baby’s maternal grandmother has custody of the child and she has since recovered from her injuries.

Wilson will be sentenced on October 25 and Jones will be sentenced the following day.
