PHOENIX (AP) -- The state's annual crackdown on drivers who fail to buckle up starts this weekend. The Click it or Ticket enforcement campaign begins Saturday.
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety says 26 law enforcement agencies in Maricopa and Pima Counties will, over nine days, conduct increased traffic enforcement with zero tolerance for violations of Arizona's seat belt laws.
The agencies will be participating in community activities with various organizations to raise public awareness about the importance of wearing seat belts.
In 2009, the state says 282 vehicle occupants killed in collisions were not wearing their seat belts. Additionally in 2009, 83 percent of vehicle occupants involved in motor vehicle collisions were not injured because of seat belts.
