PHOENIX -- Two Phoenix schools were on lockdown for a short time Wednesday morning while police officers searched for a burglary suspect.
Phoenix police officers responded to a burglary alarm at a home near 40th Avenue and Happy Valley Road and found a white van that had been stolen from Scottsdale parked in the driveway with the engine running.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the door to the home was forced open. He said a suspect armed with a gun fled out the back door and through a neighboring home.
Thompson said the suspect dumped his gun, some clothes and property nearby.
Stetson Hills Elementary School and Sandra Day O'Connor High School were locked down while officers searched for the suspect. Police did not find the suspect and the lockdown was lifted at approximately 10:45 a.m.
The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 210 pounds. He was wearing a white knit cap.
