Matt Ryan throws 3 touchdown passes, Falcons rout Cardinals 41-7

ATLANTA (AP) -- Matt Ryan matched a career high with three touchdown passes and third-string running back Jason Snelling rushed for 129 yards and scored three times as the Atlanta Falcons romped to a 41-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Snelling took over after the top two backs, Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood, went out with injuries. The replacement carried 24 times for 129 yards, including a pair of touchdowns.

He also hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Ryan.

Ryan threw for 225 yards and finally got the offense in gear for Atlanta (1-1). The first-teamers looked sluggish in the preseason, and the Falcons were held without a touchdown in a season-opening loss at Pittsburgh.

The only highlight for Arizona (1-1) was Tim Hightower's 80-yard touchdown run, matching the third longest in franchise history.
Falcons' Erik Coleman, Cardinals' Beanie Wells held out with knee injuries
The Atlanta Falcons were without safety Erik Coleman and running back Beanie Wells was inactive for the Arizona Cardinals for Sunday's game.

Coleman, a starting strong safety, was out with a left knee injury he suffered in last week's loss at Pittsburgh. He was listed as questionable.

Second-year safety William Moore made his first start.

Wells was held out with a bruised right knee. Tim Hightower was the starting running back.

Early Doucet was inactive with a sports hernia, leaving rookie Stephen Williams as the Cardinals' No. 3 receiver.

The Falcons were without receiver Michael Jenkins (shoulder) for the second week in a row.

Harry Douglas made his second consecutive start.
Falcons' Michael Turner, Jerious Norwood suffer injuries

The Atlanta Falcons are down to one healthy running back after Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood left Sunday's
game against the Arizona Cardinals with injuries.

Turner had nine carries for 75 yards before suffering a groin injury. The team said his status was questionable.

Norwood, Turner's top backup, returned the opening kickoff 34 yards and later was carted off the field with a knee injury. Norwood also is listed as questionable.

Trainers were working with Turner on the sideline in the second quarter as Jason Snelling had a 19-yard scoring catch and a 1-yard touchdown run.
