Army Guard unit returns to Ariz. after Iraq dutyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- An Army National Guard unit returned to Arizona on Saturday following a yearlong deployment that included duty in Iraq.
The 855th Military Police Company mobilized in September 2009 to Fort Dix, N.J., and then underwent additional training in Kuwait before arriving in northern Iraq in December for the unit's second deployment to that country.
The unit's missions in Iraq included training Iraqi police, performing security operations and providing humanitarian aid.
The company's 114 soldiers arrived Saturday afternoon at the Arizona Air National Guard facility at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix.
