MESA, Ariz. -- A man was charged with kidnapping after he allegedly dragged his ex-girlfriend out of a Circle K in Mesa just after midnight Wednesday.

According to Mesa police Detective Steve Berry, a woman entered the Circle K near Country Club Drive and McLellan Road to call police and report that her ex-boyfriend had held a razor blade to her.

Berry said surveillance video shows the suspect, Antwon Smith, entering the store and dragging her outside.

A passerby saw the incident and followed Smith and the victim as they sped away in a car. The passerby called police and officers attempted to stop the car, but Smith would not pull over.

Officers eventually took Smith into custody at Alma School and McKellips roads on the Salt River Indian Reservation.

Smith was charged with kidnapping.

The victim was not injured.

Berry said the victim reportedly had violated an order of protection.
