Local hero gets Bronze Star 60 years latePosted: Updated:
Congressman Raul Grijalva presented a Bronze Star to a local hero.
Constituent Samuel Pacheco earned the medal for his service in Korea. Pacheco was serving as a medic when he was wounded in action during the Korean War. He was told that he would receive a medal for his action, but never received final confirmation of the award.
"A fire damaged many of the records for these veterans. He had never really received the medal that he earned," said Representative Raul Grijalva. "We do this once in a while. It is possibly the most emotional not just for our staff, but for the men and women who have come and received medals."
Congressman Grijalva's staff contacted the national personal records center to finalize Pacheco's paperwork.
