Tucson City Council returns Wednesday to big agendaPosted: Updated:
City council offices were closed Monday and no city council members to be found, but on Wednesday they'll meet again for the first time in a month, and they'll have a lot on their plate.
Pages of the core tax committee's final recommendations will be front and center Wednesday. The committee will present to council what possible steps can be taken to fix Tucson's budget crisis should a .5¢ sales tax fail this November.
But even if the tax passes, the city will still be faced with an $11 million deficit.
The council will need to determine when and where to cut. It could be Sun Tran, or even public safety like police and fire.
But that's not it, they will also turn to issues like what to do with access Tucson and, of course, Rio Nuevo.
