Donations to fight 1070 lawsuits; Drop in illegal immigrants

Governor Jan Brewer's office says Arizona has received more than $2 million in donations to defend SB 1070.

Seven lawsuits have been filed challenging the controversial law. Two of them have been dismissed, a third, filed by the U.S. Justice Department, resulted in a judge blocking key provisions of the law from taking effect July 29. The governor has appealed that ruling.


A new analysis by the Pew Hispanic Center shows the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has dropped for the first time in 20 years.

The group's research suggests the United State's increased border enforcement and economic downturn are behind the drop.

According to the Pew Hispanic center, Arizona has the fourth highest percentage of illegal immigrants in the U.S.
