Flames tear through Tolleson apartment complexPosted: Updated:
TOLLESON, Ariz. -- Firefighters are mopping up after an early morning fire at a Tolleson apartment complex.
Crews were called out to the area near 99th Avenue and Van Buren Street before 6 a.m. The fire was a first-alarm assignment, but firefighters from Tolleson, Avondale, Glendale and Phoenix managed to knock down the flames relatively quickly.
The blaze started on the first floor and quickly moved up to the second story. Crews were able to contain the flames before they spread into the attic.
That first-floor unit where the fire started was a model so nobody was living there. Nine people living upstairs, however, will be staying at a hotel because their apartments were badly damaged.
No injuries were reported.
It's not yet known what sparked the fire.
