National Guard troops arrive in Nogales in first wave of border deployment

NOGALES — The first of 532 National Guard troops arrive in Nogales and along other parts of the Arizona border with Mexico.

The troops are part of President Barack Obama's plan to beef up U.S.-Mexico border security, although they won't have any law enforcement authority.

Waves of troops will be deploying every Monday until all 532 are on the Arizona border, likely by the end of September.

In May, Obama ordered 1,200 National Guard troops to boost security along the border.
