Police arrest pickup truck driver involved in fatal collision in Surprise

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Police arrested a 39-year-old man involved in a fatal collision in Surprise.

A man was killed and five other people were injured when a pickup truck driven by Michael Bowman, of Surprise, collided with a minivan at Reems Road and Paradise Lane on Aug. 15.

The van reportedly flipped on its side and was fully engulfed in fire. A passenger in the van died as a result of the collision.

According to Surprise police Sgt. Mark Ortega, investigators discovered that Bowman's driving privilege was suspended at the time of the accident.

Ortega said police also found illegally obtained narcotic drugs in Bowman's vehicle. Bowman reportedly admitted that he had removed the drugs from Del Webb Hospital where he worked as a technician.

Bowman was arested on Wednesday. He was charged with three counts of possession of narcotic drugs and one count of causing death by use of a vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
