Lake Havasu shooting rampage leaves six deadPosted: Updated:
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Five people were killed and two others were wounded after a man went on a shooting rampage early Sunday morning at a Lake Havasu City home.
Lake Havasu City police officers responded to the scene just after midnight Sunday and discovered a total of six gun shot victims inside the home. Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene and two were transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center.
Police have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Brian Diez, who fled the scene with two children, a 4-year-old girl and a 13-month-old boy. Diez is reportedly children's father.
According to police, Diez was discovered dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Sunday morning in San Bernardino County, California. The two children were found safe with relatives.
The children's mother, 23-year-old Deborah Langstaff, has been identified as one of the victims found dead at the Lake Havasu City scene. Police say Langstaff previously had a long-term relationship with Diez but the two were estranged at the time of the incident.
The other victims who died at the scene have been identified as 24-year-old Primo Verdone, 42-year-old Russell Nyland, and 20-year-old Ashley Nyland.
Two additional victims, 20-year-old Brock Kelson and 44-year-old Deborah Nyland were transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center where Kelson died from his injuries. Nyland has since been moved to a hospital in Las Vegas where she reportedly has a good prognosis but remains in intensive care.
Detectives from both Lake Havasu City Police Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department say the investigation is ongoing.
