CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A Chandler father has been charged with child abuse after police say he put his infant son in a freezer.
According to Detective Frank Mendoza, Chance Kracke told police that he was high on methamphetamine when he placed his 7-month-old son in a freezer on Aug. 16.
Kracke said he went into the kitchen to make himself some food while he held his son in his arms. While preparing his food, he reportedly placed his son on the bottom shelf of the freezer and closed the door.
After about a minute or two, he heard his son crying so he opened the door and placed him on the floor.
Mendoza said the boy had a cut on his forehead, possibly from the freezer door closing on him.
Kracke told police that he put his son in the freezer because the kitchen floor was too dirty to place him on it.
Kracke was arrested Thursday for child abuse, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count of animal cruelty.
It is not clear why the suspect faces animal cruelty charges at this time.
