Graduation night for the Tucson Police Department's "Citizen's Academy."

The community outreach program allows the public to learn the ins and outs of police operations from TPD officers.

The 13-week course instruction includes a look at everything from crime lab operations and the behavioral sciences to firearms and swat tactics. Graduates say they have a new appreciation for the city's police officers.

"You know i was a little hesitant, and i'd see a police officer and i'd go the other way, not anymore, they're human, they're people and they work very hard," said graduate Mary Veres.

Due to budget cutbacks, tpd is running only one class of its citizen's academy this year.
