Two dead after occupants ejected from car that flipped, caught firePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Phoenix police released the name of one of the two people killed in a single-vehicle collision Friday near New River Road and 23rd Avenue.
A 2002 black Mercedes was westbound on New River Road traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle rolled several times, ejecting all three people riding in the car.
The car then burst into flames.
Shelly L. Skaggs, 35, of Peoria, died along with an unidentified man. Skaggs' 20-year-old son received serious injuries.
Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said it appears that Skaggs purchased the Mercedes on Friday. Investigators have not been able to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Both speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors contributing to the wreck.
