Friday state furlough day; Arizona unemployment steady

Posted: Updated:

Most state workers are getting a long weekend. It's the second furlough Friday of the year, and if you have any business to do with the state -- it will have to wait until Monday.

The closures will affect most state offices with the exception of those essential for public safety. All state facilities will re-open Monday.

Unemployment in Arizona is still at 9.6%.  That's steady from the month before.

A report from the Arizona department of commerce shows a loss of 16,000 jobs in July; most in the government sector as census workers are laid off and school takes summer break.

But that number is much lower than the average job loss during July in Arizona.
