Man robbed at drive-up ATM in MesaPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police are searching for a suspect who robbed a bank customer making a withdrawal at a drive-up ATM Thursday night.
According to Mesa police Detective Michael Melendez, the victim was sitting in his truck making a withdrawal from the ATM at the Chase Bank at Main Street and Greenfield Road at approximately 11:39 p.m.
A male approached the truck and pointed a handgun at the victim through the open driver's side window. The victim drove off, leaving his money in the ATM machine.
The suspect fled westbound on foot with the money.
The suspect was described as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds. The victim said the suspect was possibly in his 20s and possibly light skinned. He was wearing black pants, a long-sleeved black shirt, and a full-faced black ski mask.
A perimeter was set up and K9 officers as well as the air unit responded. Melendez said two black shirts, a red bandanna, a black ski mask, and a black pellet gun were found in the Dumpster behind the Big O Tires just west of the scene.
A security guard for a nearby trailer park said that he saw two males running northbound across Main Street from the area of the Big O Tires just prior to police arriving. He described them as light skinned, possibly juveniles, wearing black pants and white T-shirts and he said that they ran toward some apartments. The suspects were not located.
