MESA, Ariz. -- A monsoon storm knocked down some power lines in Mesa, leaving many homeowners without electricity. While power had been restored to most customers by Tuesday night, SRP crews were still working Wednesday morning.

A power line on Ellsworth between University Drive and Southern Avenue actually caught fire.

Wind gusts in northeast Mesa were clocked at 60 mph.

Those winds and the rain left behind a good deal of damage. In the neighborhood of McKellips and Sossaman, several trees were uprooted, and many homes sustained roof damage.

"It sounded like a train wreck coming through," said Taylor Carpenter, who lives at Loop 202 and McKellips. The storm ripped the roof off his home.

No injuries were reported.
