Marana Airport hit hard by storms

Posted: Updated:

Planes are made to soar through the air, but at the Marana regional airport three planes won't be going anywhere, anytime soon.

The National Weather Service says two separate, severe, thunderstorms converged in Marana around six pm Sunday. At times winds reached upwards of eighty miles per hour.

The storm also did damage to one of the hangers - completely blowing the door off its track. The storm was so intense that Rodney Campbell of the Town of Marana says all of the tie-downs at the airport met FAA requirements, yet some of the planes still flipped over.

Even with the damage, Life at the airport that caters mostly to recreational fliers was still mostly normal.
