1 Killed in Phoenix home invasion, 2 suspects on the loosePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Police have identified the victim of a deadly shooting that might have started with a home invasion.
According to Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department, Scot Deskins, 37, was shot and killed at a home in the area of 37th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
Crump said the woman who initially called 911 was hiding inside the house after at least two people broke in shortly before 11:30 Monday night.
"What we know is that she heard conversation within the home," Crump said.
Neighbors also called to report gunfire.
Detectives are getting a search warrant to search the house. They are also talking to the woman who called 911 from a locked room inside the home. The woman, whose name has not been released, stayed in that room until officers arrived on the scene. She was not injured.
Investigators believe Deskins was targeted.
"We don't believe this was random at this point," Crump said. "We believe from some of the talk or the conversation inside that they were specifically looking for something. We don't know what the motive is at this point. Hopefully, we'll determine that some time today."
While detectives have not yet been able to search the house, they do believe the suspects spent some time going through the home.
Investigators do not have a description of the suspects right now. While the woman who called 911 heard them, she did not see them.
