Teen mom accused after false report of kidnappingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A teenage mother who reported men dressed in black took her 1-year-old baby at gunpoint faces a charge of child abuse after Phoenix police found the baby behind some bushes and discovered the report was false.
Police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson says the 16-year-old mother called police about 8:30 p.m. Saturday to report the abduction.
A search was launched, and police say a K-9 unit found the baby asleep, strapped in her stroller behind bushes in a greenbelt about 11 p.m.
Authorities say the baby did not appear to be harmed.
Thompson says authorities learned the mother left the child there because she was having trouble coping with motherhood and didn't feel her family was giving her the help she wanted.
The baby is now with family members.
